IIT Professor Dr Indranil Manna Becomes Vice-Chancellor Of BIT Mesra.

Dr Indranil Manna was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra Ranchi, Jharkhand. Dr Manna was appointed on 3rd August 2020. He was the professor of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Department at IIT Kharagpur.

Dr Manna has a PhD in Engineering and an M Tech in Physical Metallurgy from IIT Kharagpur. He has a BE in Metallurgy from the University of Calcutta. Dr Manna has also received the Premchand Raichand Scholarship (PRS) from the University of Calcutta in the field of applied physics.

Dr Manna joined IIT, Kharagpur as a lecturer in 1985. He became a full professor in the year 2003 and HAG professor in 2009. He continued in this position until joining CSIR-CGCRI as Director in March 2010. Subsequently, he also held a distinguished tenure as Director of IIT, Kanpur from 2012-2017. During this tenure, he held many other positions such as National Co-ordinator of Impacting Research Innovation and Technology, MRHD Campaign, membership of Research Advisory Boards of ARCI, GAIL, RINL and BHEL as an initiative of GOI.

Dr Manna taught various subjects at IIT Kharagpur for 25 years before assuming administrative responsibilities. He has delivered lectures in various capacities at over 100 institutions around the world. Dr Manna has contributed to over 250 journal publications and has collected more than 6000 citations. He supervised 25 PhD theses and has conducted several high value sponsored projects at IIT-Kharagpur. Dr Manna has also been a former President of the Indian Institute of Metals and a former Vice President of INAE.
