Jharkhand State Government Approves Formation Of Anti Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU)

Thousands of children, especially girls are falling victim to human trafficking every year in Jharkhand. But now, the human traffickers will be attracting huge trouble if they continue their trade by luring the gullible people of Jharkhand. The Hemant Soren government has cleared the way for strict action against those involved in human trafficking. On Monday, the Chief Minister approved the formation of an anti-human trafficking unit.

The proposal for setting up of Anti Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) at Latehar, Sahibganj, Godda and Giridih in the state has been approved by Chief Minister Hemant Soren. The AHTU will work for the prevention of illegal human trafficking and conduct investigation of cases and crimes related to human trafficking. The team will prepare complete details of criminal gangs involved. As per directions of the central government, Anti Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) is to be set up in all districts of the state. AHTU police stations are functioning in capital Ranchi, Khunti, Simdega, Lohardaga, Gumla, Palamu, Chaibasa and Dumka districts. The process of opening it in the remaining 12 districts is progressing at a fast pace.

Human trafficking is an unorganized crime and run by various gangs in the state. It is used to trap poor and gullible people. In the name of providing jobs and good lives, they take children and people away from their home to cities like Delhi and Mumbai and then sell them. Girls are pushed into the flesh trade and boys into the world of crime. In Jharkhand, thousands of boys and girls are falling victim to human trafficking every year. All the governments in the state tried to eliminate human trafficking at their levels, but it has not been completely curbed so far. In recent times, many girls were rescued from Delhi where they had been sold to affluent people and were being treated like slaves. The girls were being physically and mentally harassed.

This initiative of the Jharkhand government on the directions of the central government can be considered a major step towards eliminating this social evil. Hemant Soren had promised to liberate Jharkhand from the scourge of human trafficking during his campaign in the assembly elections.
