Amid the growing outbreak of coronavirus in Jharkhand, Health Minister Banna Gupta informed that like Delhi, Jharkhand capital Ranchi is also going to start treating corona positive people through plasma therapy. Chief Minister Hemant Soren will inaugurate it at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) on Tuesday, July 28. This information was given by the Health Minister in a tweet on Friday.

Jharkhand Health Minister stated that the state will start treatment with plasma therapy from July 28. After ICMR allowing trial, several states have started treatment with plasm therapy, which has also been successful. Dr Nitin Madan Kulkarni, Principal Secretary, Department of Health has written a letter to Dr Manju Train, Director, RIMS. It says that plasma therapy will be introduced from July 28 at RIMS. All preparations have been completed by the health department. The Health Secretary has also instructed the RIMS director to make all preparations in this regard.

Several states in the country, including capital Delhi, have started using plasma therapy to treat people infected with corona. When Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain was in the grip of the corona, he was treated with plasma therapy and was able to recover completely. The experiment has been successful in several states and hence ICMR has allowed the trial.

Plasma therapy is called plasmapheresis in the language of medical science. It is a process in which blood fluid or plasma is separated from blood cells. If a person’s plasma has unhealthy tissues, treatment for the same is started. This process is followed only for certain cases.

Plasma therapy is a one-day process, which takes up to 3 hours. This has to be done very carefully so that the patient does not suffer and is not affected adversely.

  • Plasma therapy begins with a needle inserted in the hand/arm.
  • Blood is taken out using the centrifuge machine.
  • Plasma is produced after blood has been taken from the patient’s body
  • The finished plasma is inserted into the patient’s body with the help of an injection.
  • After injecting plasma, the injection space is cleaned and bandaged, which completes the process of plasma therapy.

There are several cases when plasma therapy is used:

  • Many diseases are caused by infection. Plasma therapy is used to detect infection.
  • In this period, a lot of organs are transplanted and sometimes they prove to be unsuccessful. Plasma therapy helps people who undergo transplants when the donor part does not work correctly.
  • Plasmapheresis is also sometimes resorted to in the treatment of serious injury or injury during sports.
  • Doctors take the help of plasma therapy in treating a person suffering from Myasthenia Gravis. Myasthenia Gravis is a mental illness in which people’s muscles are weakened.
  • Plasma therapy is also often used to treat Gullian Berry Syndrome, a disease affecting immunity, which affects people’s health and increases their chances of getting sick.
