Jharkhand Government Looking To Appeal In Supreme Court Against NGT’s 130 Crore Fine Order.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has imposed a fine of Rs. 130 crore on the Jharkhand government for building the new Jharkhand Assembly building and under construction High Court building without their permission. The JMM-Congress government is in a state of shock over the notice and are questioning the BJP and former Raghuwar Das government of irregularities and other issues regarding the construction of these buildings.

The government and the opposition are attacking each other after the notice from NGT. Leaving politics aside, the state government has also started to prepare its response after the NGT order. It is believed that the State Government could appeal in the Supreme Court against the order if it cannot find a way to respond appropriately to the order. An appeal can be made to the Supreme Court within 90 days of NGT’s order. There seems to be very little scope of the state Government taking a different stand in this matter as of now.

At present, the government is not looking at any other option than going to the Supreme Court. The Solicitor general of the State is in quarantine currently. The process of filing an appeal in the Supreme Court as soon as he gets well. The process of checking the documents pertaining to the Assembly and the High Court buildings has started. As per departmental sources, it has come to the fore that environmental permission was obtained before of the new Assembly building was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
