Community education will be introduced in Jharkhand state government schools. The village head will create a ‘mentor teacher’ in every panchayat, which will have a team of six people, retired teachers or graduates. This team will work under the ‘No child to be left behind’ scheme. The scheme will be launched by Chief Minister Hemant Soren. The Department of School Education and Literacy is preparing for the scheme launch. With schools closed due to corona epidemic, digital content is not available to about 75 percent of children. Whether they are able to study at home or not is not being evaluated. In such a situation, the Department of School Education and Literacy has prepared a proposal to start community education. The community campaign will involve the village head, parents, retired teachers, graduate pass people, to motivate children to read and learn.
While school teachers will continue teaching the children at their level, the responsibility for the community will also be fixed. The head of all 4500 panchayats have to form a team of six mentor teachers. There will be 27 thousand mentor teachers across the state, who will ensure that no child from first to fifth class is left behind. For children, Panchayat Bhavan will provide reading facilities through use of televisions and loudspeakers. The mentor teacher of each panchayat will support the mother teacher of the panchayat and the school principals. Mentor teachers can also be paid a fixed amount on the basis of work from the funds of the School Management Committee.
Matric and intermediate pass students in villages will also be seen in the role of child teachers. They will be tagged with the children as volunteers after their consent. They will be given the responsibility to convince the children living within a radius of one kilometer of their house. The government will also award such child teachers.
