Two people arrested in connection with alleged murder of Dhanbad judge Uttam Anand.

In the case of death of Jharkhand’s Dhanbad district Judge Uttam Anand, the police are questioning 243 old criminals and have apprehended 17 people in relation to various other cases as told by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sanjiv Kumar on Sunday. He further said that the police have also impounded 250 auto-rickshaws.
Kumar said that two officers have also been suspended. Sub Inspector Adarsh Kumar was suspended for making the CCTV footage public while Pathardih police station’s officer-in-charge Umesh Manjhi was suspended on Saturday for lodging FIR about an autorickshaw theft two days after the accident.

“Police have also searched 53 hotels of the district and arrested 17 persons in connection with the incident. FIRs have been lodged against them in different police station.” Said Kumar. Furthermore, he said that even though the police recovered the autorickshaw that hit the judge while he was out on morning jog; in a special drive, 250 autorickshaws that were found with irregularities in documents have been seized. Notably, about 16,000 autorickshaws are registered with the Transport Department in Dhanbad.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Saturday had decided to hand over the investigation of the case to the CBI. The Jharkhand government has set up a Special Investigation Team to solve the district judge death case, which gave rise to nationwide outrage.
It is to be noted that the CCTV footage that emerged later showed that the judge was out on a morning jog when an autorickshaw rammed into him while he was walking along the side of the road at Randhir Verma Chowk on Wednesday morning. On Thursday, the accused two persons, auto-rickshaw driver Lakhan Verma and his companion Rahul Verma have been arrested in connection with the case.
