Corona test report of India’s legendary wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni has come negative. It is now final that he would play the IPL this year. Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni will fly from Ranchi to Chennai on Friday, August 14. Then on August 21, the entire Chennai Super Kings team will leave for the United Arab Emirates.
On Wednesday, Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s swab sample was taken for corona test. It was expected that their report would come by evening, but the report came on Thursday. With the report coming negative, the participation of Mahendra Singh Dhoni is now confirmed.
Earlier, Chennai Super Kings Chief Executive Officer Kasi Viswanathan had said that he felt that the charismatic Mahendra Singh Dhoni would be a part of the franchise in the 2021 and 2022 Indian Premier League as well. Dhoni has not played competitive cricket since the World Cup semi-finals last year. The 39-year-old player is expected to return to competitive cricket with the upcoming IPL, which will be played in the UAE from 19 September to 10 November.
Vishwanathan said that he is getting updates from the media itself that Dhoni is training in indoor nets in Jharkhand and CSK are not worried about their captain at all. He said that Dhoni knows his responsibilities and will take care of himself and the team. N Srinivasan, vice president and managing director of India Cements and owner of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise had said in January that Dhoni would be retained by the team in the 2021 IPL auction. After the World Cup last year, there was ongoing speculation about Dhoni’s future.
The Indian Cricket Board did not give a central contract to Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who made Team India champion in all three formats of cricket. Dhoni was seen practising at the indoor stadium of Jharkhand State Cricket Association in Ranchi. CSK has planned to set up a small training camp in its base Chennai from August 16 to 20.
