The scenes at Ranchi’s Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences with patients without any family can be disturbing. As these patients do not have any family to look after them post-treatment, they stay inside the RIMS premises in pathetic conditions.
For such patients, the RIMS management has created a special ward with a common kitchen in the basement in front of the Orthopedic ward. This ward also acts as a shelter for these unclaimed patients. This has been possible with the efforts of Dr. DK Sinha, Superintendent in-charge of RIMS and Dr. L B Manjhi, Head of Department of Orthopedic Department.
Dr. Manjhi informed that many people bring patients and leave them in the hospital but at many times it is also seen that families leave the patients after few days which is when they start living in the corridors of the hospital and are known as unclaimed patients.
At this special ward, all the unclaimed patients will be provided with three meals a day and a personnel has also been assigned to take care of such patients.
