BJP MLA from Bokaro District, Biranchi Narayan demanded the execution of the Journalists’ Protection Act on the lines of Chhattisgarh and Odisha. It might be noted that Jharkhand Journalists had showcased a one-day-sit-in in all the 24 districts necessitating the implementation of the law in the State. After the strike, the journalists submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister.
A letter was written by the Association State President, Vishnu Shankar Upadhyay to all the MLAs for implementing the Journalist Protection Act during the Assembly session. On Wednesday, MLA Biranchi Narayan again raised the demand for compensation to the families of the journalists killed, comprehending the Journalists’ Protection Act in the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly.
“Today the fourth pillar of democracy is in danger, journalists are constantly being killed and attacks on journalists have gone up,” said Narayan while demanding the implementation of the Journalists’ Protection Act. The demand of bestowing constitutional protection to journalists has been welcomed by all journalists in the State.
