Ranchi: Purushottam Kumar who hails from Nawada district in Bihar was admitted to Sadar hospital in Ranchi for about 57 days. He was kept on an oxygen ventilator for 25 days. Later he was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit. Purushottam Kumar is a 34-year-old railway worker and is posted in Munger.
On April 22 he turned positive and by April 27 he was admitted to a nearby hospital in Nawada, where his score was 17/25 in the CT report. Until April 30, he stayed in Nawada hospital, where at the time he needed 2-3 liters of oxygen. His oxygen level started dipping and the fever was constantly high. Nawada’s doctors advised him to go to a higher center. Purushottam after struggling for a long got admitted to the intensive care unit in Ranchi Sadar hospital on May 2 where he was immediately administered Remdesivir and other necessary drugs. After some improvement in the first few days, the health of Purushottam started to decline again after which he was moved to non-invasive ventilation (NIV) where he stayed for 25 days. Slowly he started recovering because of the intensive care provided by the doctors who were constantly worried and working on this case at Sadar hospital. At last, the hard work paid off and after fighting for his life every day, Purshottam finally recovered after 66 days.
Doctors advised him to monitor his oxygen level and to take necessary precautions. They told him to keep in touch with them over the phone if necessary and seek advice.
The ICU team declared Purushottam the first patient to have been admitted as well as recovered after so long at Ranchi Sadar Hospital. He thanked Dr. Ajit and the whole intensive care team along with technicians, sanitation, management staff, and all the workers of Sadar hospital, Ranchi.
