340 new cases of coronavirus infection were reported from various districts in Jharkhand till evening on Tuesday. New cases have been identified in almost all districts. However, reports were yet to come from several places other than medical colleges. The number of active patients in the state has now gone up to 9,034. So far 4816 patients have recovered from corona in the state. A total of 707 samples were tested today in RIMS, Ranchi Hospital in which 23 came positive while 684 were negative. Out of 23 positive cases, 5 patients were from RIMS, 3 from Ranchi, one from Namkum and 14 from Garhwa. Chief Minister Hemant Soren, his wife, had re-tests done which all came negative. Chief Minister Hemant Soren had gone for the tests along with other members of his family on Tuesday after 17 personnel of CM house were found infected with the virus
A total of 8 positive cases of Covid19 were confirmed in Bokaro on Tuesday. This includes a 34-year-old woman from Sector 4/F, a 40-year-old woman from Sector 1/B, a 55-year-old man from Bokaro Thermal, a 39-year-old man from Sector 8/C, a 36-year-old man from Sector 4, a 34-year-old man from Camp 2, a 65-year-old man from the railway colony and a 35-year-old from Camp 2. All have been shifted to Covid Hospital.
Now, only two districts Dumka and Jamtara remain where there are less than 100 active cases. In Ranchi and Jamshedpur, numbers have gone up to 1500. The number of cases active in Dhanbad crossed 500 while in Chatra, Deoghar, Garhwa, Gumla, Koderma, Latehar, Ramgarh, Palamu and P. Singhbhum, the number has exceeded 200. On Tuesday, a woman from Jamshedpur and a man from Saraikela-Kharsawa died during treatment at TMH in Jamshedpur. A patient of Mandar also died in morning hours at RIMS. The number of corona patients who passed away has now risen to 161.
In Jharkhand, Corona has now started infecting prisoners in jails. 54 people of Birsa Munda jail were found corona positive. Out of this, 2 are former ministers and 22 are staff including14 policemen. Samples of more than 250 people from the jail were tested. The prisoners who tested positive have been put in a single cell. Former minister Enos Ekka and Raja Peter were found corona positive on Tuesday in Ranchi. This has increased the concern of the prison administration. The report of Principal Secretary, Department of Personnel, State Government Ajay Kumar Singh has also come positive. Ajay Kumar Singh is the first IAS functionary of the state to be infected with corona.
