3 Jharkhand Unani Doctors Get Rs 6 lakh From Centre for Covid Cure

The Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH) has granted a sum of Rs 6 lakh to a research project being undertaken by three doctors from the state. The research is aimed at exploring the role o three Unani formulations- Tiryaq Wabai, Arque-e-Ajeeb and Habb-e-Loban, in the cure of Covid-19 patients.

The research team has three doctors, of which two are from the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi and one is an AYUSH practitioner in the State Health Department. The team comprises Dr. Anshul Kumar- Head cardio-thoracic vascular surgery department at RIMS, Dr. Mohd Saif Khan- Associate Professor at RIMS Critical Care Medicine & Trauma Centre and Dr. Gulam Rabbani, an AYUSH medical officer at CHC Karra in Khunti. They will take up the research in the next four months.

The doctors had applied for a grant after which the AYUSH ministry invited proposals for research projects on Covid-19 to find an alternative treatment for the disease. On completion of the project, Dr. Kumar said that they will have a better knowledge of the formulations and their effectiveness in developing immunity of both symptomatic as well as asymptomatic patients. The Unani formulations will be given to mild and severe patients as these formulations are recognized as immunity-boosting medication with zero-side effects.
