2500 assistant policemen from 12 naxal affected districts of Jharkhand assembled in Morhabadi on Saturday morning. Their demand is that they be made permanent in the job. They were recruited on a contractual basis three years ago. At that time, it was said that if their duty would be satisfactory, they would be made permanent. Now, their contract is going to end, but they have not yet been made permanent. The assistant policemen in Morhabadi said that their delegation will hold talks with higher officials but they would not move from the place till the process for their permanent appointment is started. The assistant policemen on ‘vardi-e-Insaf’ movement began to join the Morhabadi Maidan from late night on Friday, which continued till Saturday morning. The assistant policemen who arrived here late in the night spent the night under open skies. The assistant policemen were still in Morhabadi Maidan in complete discipline.
The assistant policemen say that the previous government had assured them and the deadline for the same is already over. They have been forced to agitate. The policemen say that they were coming on their vehicles but the district administration did not let them enter, so they had to cover the distance on foot. They added that initially they were told that they would only have to perform duty in own police station area but were made to do more. They have served all from local police station to traffic and expedition and now the promises made to them should be fulfilled.
A total of 2500 assistant policemen from 12 naxal affected districts of Jharkhand were appointed in the year 2017 and an honorarium of Rs 10,000 was fixed by the government. The candidates were told that they would be made permanent after three years. However, no progress was made in that regard and hence they have started this agitation. With 2500 assistant policemen assembling at Morhabadi Maidan, the Ranchi traffic SP, City SP, City DSP rushed to the spot and interacted with them. The traffic SP said that they feel good that the assistant policemen have maintained discipline. This shows that they are real policemen.
