New National Investigation Agency Branch In Ranchi Approved By Home Ministry.

A branch of the National Investigation Agency- NIA, formed by the Government of India to fight terrorism, will also be set up in Ranchi. Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a review meeting with senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday. Many important decisions were taken in the meeting, including approval of three additional branches of National Investigation Agency. Setting up of three additional branches of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Imphal, Chennai and Ranchi was approved. The establishment of additional branches of NIA will make the agency more efficient and stronger in fight against terrorism.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) was established on 31 December 2008 by the then Congress government after the terrorist attacks in Mumbai attack. The agency came into existence with the enactment of the National Investigation Agency Bill 2008, an act passed by the Parliament of India. After the 2008 Mumbai attacks, the need for a special central agency to combat terrorism was felt. Its founder director general was Radha Vinod Raju. This agency was established with the aim of combating terrorism in India. It acts as the central anti-terrorism law enforcement agency. The agency is capable of dealing with terror-related crimes in the states without special permission from the states.
