Migratory Birds Begin Their Arrival in the State

With the onset of winters, the arrival of migratory birds in the state has started. A flock of migratory birds has arrived at Chadwa Dam on Hazaribagh-Katkamsandi road. The dam is about 5 kms from Hazaribagh city.

As of Wednesday, the Red Crested Pochard, Common Pochard, Bar Headed Goose, Great Crested Grab and Indian Cormorant were seen at the dam. These winged guests have mostly arrived from Central Asia. Currently, their number is less but the birds in large numbers will be arriving by the end of November or the first week of December.

Thousands of migratory birds, including pochard, common pochard, godwal, wagtail, greater grab, greylag goose, ruddy shelduck, bar-headed goose, coot and yellow wagtail make their home in water bodies across the state between November and early March in search of food and protection from the bitter cold in the Himalayan region.

These birds are likely to stay till mid-February or early March.
