Scholarship Scam Update: Welfare Department to Take Help from Minority Affairs Ministry

The Jharkhand Government will now take assistance from the Centre to investigate the minority scholarship scam. This decision has been taken in view of the difficulties being faced in asserting the right number of institutions in the districts and minority students enrolled and benefited therein. The Department of Welfare will send its proposal to the Union Minority Affairs Ministry this week and request to make the list available for further investigation.

In order to extract the details of every institution on the central government portal,  a new process has to be followed each time. Last year 45 thousand institutions were part of the minority scholarship, in such a situation, the process of extracting the number of institutions and students studying and benefiting has become time taking. Therefore, the welfare department is seeking help from the central government to list all the institutions and the number of students studying and benefiting from it. Based on this, verification of the concerned institution will be done which will expedite investigations.

For 2019-20, about 45 lakh educational institutions across the state were registered for pre-matric minority scholarships. The state government has canceled all the registrations and started a fresh process. So far only 3200 institutions have registered. For the 2020-21 session, students of these institutions will get minority scholarships. The Department of Welfare has also issued instructions to all districts for physical verification of these institutions.
