Jharkhand Economic Situation Review: What is the New Spending Limit for the Departments?

The Jharkhand government has decided to increase the spending limit to 75 percent till December. The decision was taken after a review meeting. Prior to this only 50 percent spending was allowed till December. The Department of Finance has issued an order related to this.

The current financial year began during Covid-19. Several business activities were completely shut due to lockdown which created an economic crisis in the state. To deal with this, the government started controlling expenditure and departments were allowed limited spending. Initially, withdrawal of money was allowed only for salary allowances, precaution and treatment of Covid-19 and welfare schemes being run for the poor. Once the situation improved, government allowed certain repair work etc. and also increased the withdrawal limit from the treasury. In October, withdrawal of a maximum of five lakh rupees in respect to arrears of salary etc. were allowed by the government and the spending limit was fixed at 50 percent till December.
