Manipal-Tata Medical College in Baridih, Jamshedpur is the first private medical college of Jharkhand. While the enrollment for MBBS and other courses has started, there is a stark difference in its fees as compared to the Manipal Campus in Karnataka. The annual fee being charged in Karnataka by Manipal is only 1 lakh 44 thousand rupees while in Jharkhand the fees is 14 lakh 40 thousand rupees. There are 25 seats reserved for the students of Jharkhand.
A delegation from Jamshedpur had earlier met Chief Minister Hemant Soren and sought his intervention in this regard, as most of the students in Jharkhand come from economically weaker section and the fees should be decided accordingly. Jugsalai MLA Mangal Kalindi has said that interest of students from Jharkhand must be protected and fees should be on the lines of Karnataka. Social activist Madan Soren said that the Chief Minister should intervene in the matter as soon as possible so that students from Jharkhand can benefit from it.
