CBI To Now Need Jharkhand State Government’s Consent To Conduct Investigation In The State.

On Thursday, Jharkhand joined the list of non-BJP rules states to revoke basic consent for CBI to conduct any new probe in the state’s boundaries without prior permission. Jharkhand becomes the seventh state – along with Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Mizoram Maharashtra and Kerala – to invoke the Delhi Particular Police Institution Act, 1946, to stop the CBI from beginning a suo motu investigation into any case inside the state borders.

The decision by Jharkhand came only a day after Kerala had implemented the same. The CBI will now need both a court directive and federal government’s consent to investigate within the borders of Jharkhand in a new case. The order though will not be applicable for cases where investigation is already underway.

Jharkhand Government led by Hemant Soren had on multiple occasions accused the Centre of unleashing the CBI in different cases in the state out of personal vendetta on non BJP ruled states. Congress welcomed Jharkhand government’s decision and termed it ‘a well timed intervention to save lots of the sanctity of constitutional our bodies’.
