A meeting was held by Jharkhand Ministry under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, contemplating the release of 26 prisoners. The State Sentence Review Board (SRB) along with Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Rajiv Arun Ekka, Director General of Police Neeraj Sinha, Inspector General of Prisons Birendra Bhushan, Judicial Commissioner, Ranchi Navneet Kumar, Principal Secretary cum Legal Counsel Sanjay Prasad, Prison Welfare Officer Kamaljit Singh and other officials met Soren contemplating the previous meeting with SRB held on December 4, 2020.
After appraising and scrutinizing the recommendation considering the release of 50 prisoners presented by the State SRB, Soren approved the release of 26 prisoners and said that action will be taken in the next few days for the release of these 26 prisoners.
The decision was taken by the CM after an extensive perusal of the reports rendered by the court, Jail Superintendent, SP, and Probation Officer contemplating the released prisoners and their impact on society after they are detained. As per the rules, the convicts whose proposals have not been accepted will be summoned to the State Sentence Review Board after a year.
“It is important to bring responsibility towards the social interest in the life of a criminal,” Soren said, “There is a need to bring positive changes in their lives by connecting the detainees who come out after punishment to the mainstream of the society,” he added. Soren has also requested the released prisoners to work toward the betterment of society.
